PROFESSIONAL TUTORIALS
Professional Tutorials (P-Course)
IUC offers a customized tutorials program in advanced Japanese for scholars and professionals, designed to support those who seek advanced language training for specific research purposes or career goals. The program is ideal for individuals whose Japanese language skills are at the JLPT N2 level or above.
Program options (1 unit = 50 minutes) are available year-round, with 2 to 4 units per week.
Instruction is held at the IUC offices in Yokohama on weekdays between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Dates, times, and venues for tutorials are flexible and can be arranged through consultation with IUC faculty. Online instruction via Zoom is also available.
Admission decisions are based on the applicant's qualifications, stated objectives, and the availability of suitable instructors. Notifications will be made at least six weeks before the start of the term.
Application Deadlines
Spring term (late March to late May: 12 weeks): Deadline: 1/25
Summer term (mid-June to early August: 12 weeks): Deadline: 4/15

Decisions will be made based on the applicant's qualifications, stated objectives, and the availability of suitable instructors.
Persons admitted to the P-Course program are responsible for making their own visa and transportation arrangements. Housing arrangements are also the responsibility of the individual applicant; IUC cannot provide assistance in locating housing or in making arrangements for rental.
Academic Year 2024–25
Tuition for the 2024–25 IUC Professional Tutorials is JPY 17,000 per unit. IUC alumni are eligible for a discounted rate of JPY 12,000 per unit (1 unit = 50 minutes).
Payments
Tuition fees are collected through our administrative office in Yokohama. All payments must be made in Japanese yen via bank transfer.
If you are making payments through your university (e.g., FLAS, departmental scholarship, etc.), or if you have any questions regarding alternative payment methods, please email IUC's Stanford office at iucjapan@stanford.edu.
Please note, IUC retains the right to cancel or modify the program at any time, for reasons that may include, but are not limited to, natural disasters, emergencies, or health and safety considerations. Program modifications shall not alter the student’s obligation to pay tuition.
